Ab-Soul’s New Album Is Done & Jay Rock’s Is Close. He Previews A New Song (Video)

At the beginning of the year, Top Dawg, founder and owner of Top Dawg Entertainment promised the label would release 6 projects in 2016. Kendrick Lamar led off with untitled unmastered in March, and he was followed by ScHoolboy Q who dropped his Blank Face LP in July. Last week, after a cryptic pair of tweets from Top and TDE Co-President, Dave Free, Isaiah Rashad put out a new song, “Free Lunch,” followed by its video which confirmed his new album was coming on September 2. Still, with just over three and a half months remaining in the year, it looked unlikely that TDE’s 2016 releases would tally 6…until now.

It’s Official. Isaiah Rashad’s New Album Is Coming In September & The 1st Video Is Money

Taking to Instagram, Top Dawg has shared some exciting news over the last 24 hours. Late last night (8/12), he revealed that Jay Rock’s new album was “80% done.” That’s incredible progress, considering the serious injury Jay Rock suffered after a motorcycle accident that took place on the same night Kendrick Lamar took home three Grammy Awards. The unnamed project will be Rock’s follow up to 2015’s 90059, and Top’s announcement came with an extended sneak preview of one of the song’s Rock is cooking up in the studio.

While that is undoubtedly exciting for TDE, in even more good news, Top Dawg disclosed that Ab-Soul’s long-awaited new album is 100% done and the release date will be announced soon. Soul’s album will be his first since 2014’s These Days….

So…That leaves one question: what will the sixth release be? SZA, the first lady of TDE, has been relatively quiet this year, save for a few select releases and a strong feature on ScHoolboy Q’s “Neva CHange.” Still, as today’s announcements and the 1-week window between the announcement and release of untitled unmastered show, TDE likes to make sneak attacks. There is also the possibility, however, that the last release will be the first TDE project from newcomer, Lance Skiiiwalker. The vocalist has had a couple of releases in the last few months, as well as features on boy Jay Rock and Q’s album. Stay tuned…
