Going strictly off ill subliminals, it would be hard to say who struck first, in a series of raps where the two New York City MCs appear to be getting at one another. Just over a year ago, Remy even rocked her own rendition of Minaj’s “Truffle Butter” with a slick freestyle. Today (February 25), Remy Ma leaves zero doubt in her reply, “ShETHER.”

She uses the beat and recreates the inro to Nas’ “Ether” (produced by Ron Browz in 2001). It is an interesting choice. Like Nas taking on Jay Z 15-plus years ago, Rem’ knows she may appear to be the underdog in the moment. However, fresh off of a Grammy nomination and more than a few hit singles, that’s debatable. In any event, the Bronx bomber explodes into a tirade that accuses Nick’ of biting since 2009. The First Lady of the Terror Squad denies she ever dissed Nicki Minaj (going back to this trail of curious lyrics from each), and also begins with audio of “Barbie” crying “Free Remy!” back when.

Papoose’s wife cleverly lays into an onslaught of bars that involve other Nick’s, from Nickelodeon network to Nicholas Cage to Nick Nolte to Nick Jonas to Nicky Barmes, out to belittle Minaj. Remy also reps for the B-X for what may be the most aggressive Bronx attack of Queens since Boogie Down Productions went at MC Shan, Marley Marl, and the Juice Crew. Where she may go the hardest is laying into Nicki’s 37 year-old brother, Jelani Maraj, who was indicted for the rape of a 12-year old girl. Nicki posted the bail money to release him in late 2015. To Remy, this is condoning pedophilia, and supporting it. She rubs it in her adversary’s face, and makes it clear to all listening that this. is. personal.

From Nicki using her looks to get ahead, and her body to get into the industry, addiction, failed relations, and controversial family members, and a weak pen game, Remy Ma holds nothing back. Nicki Minaj has seemingly upset Lil’ Kim, Foxy Brown, and now Remy Ma.
