Statik Selektah Is A Highly Regarded Producer. But He’s Still One Mean DJ Too. (Video)

In the mid-2010s, Statik Selektah is a deeply respected producer. From some of the highlights of Joey Bada$$’s B4.Da.$$ to Eminem and company’s “Detroit Vs. Everybody,” to his own incredible album catalog, the ShowOff Records founder is highly sought out, and one of Hip-Hop’s most prolific creators.

As Statik’s career as a producer was getting off, he was always a DJ. A decade ago, Heads could catch Statik rocking with Q-Tip, M.O.P., and his steadfast right hand Termanology (with whom he’s formed 1982). In launching Funkmaster Flex’s new series “5 Minutes of Funk” (an homage to a Whodini hit), Statik freestyles with his hands behind the wheels of steel.

Heads can hear Statik’s own “Bird’s Eye View” (with Black Thought, Joey Bada$$, and Raekwon). They can watch as Selektah drops bombs from Flex’s show, and plays in the HOT 97 mainstay calling his work, a brother of “Dr. Dre and DJ Premier.” The beat eventually gets to a Jazz loop, as Statik cuts, scratches, and adjusts the levels and faders to show he can DJ however Heads want it.
