DMX Announces It’s Dark And Hell Is Hot 20th Anniversary Tour Dates

Last May, DMX’s debut album, It’s Dark And Hell Is Hot turned 20 years old. Earl Simmons was behind bars for the anniversary, stemming from a violation of bail surrounding a tax evasion conviction. After leaving Gilmer Federal Correctional Institution in Glenville, West Virginia last month, Dark Man X is taking some of his first weeks as a free man to hit the road and celebrate the Ruff Ryders/Def Jam Records album that catapulted him to Rap stardom.

DMX posted the dates and venues on his Instagram for the It’s Dark And Hell Is Hot 20th Anniversary Tour. The nationwide run begins March 8 in Oklahoma City, and runs through May 7 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The rapper made the announcement referencing the LP’s menacing intro.

It’s Dark… reached #1 on the charts, and is certified quadruple platinum. Notably, the debut achieved this with one single (“Get At Me Dog”) just barely sneaking into the Top 40. X, whose career began early in the ’90s with a RuffHouse Records 12″ along with work with Pudgee The Phat Bastard and Mic Geronimo, made one of the more significant delayed introductions in Rap history. The LP featured The LOX, Ma$e, Drag-On, and X’s Bloodline artist Big Stan, among others.

That same year, Def Jam’s Lyor Cohen offered DMX a $1 million bonus if he could complete a second album in 30 days. That led to Flesh Of My Flesh, Blood Of My Blood. That triple-platinum album’s 20th anniversary passed in December.
