DJ Premier & Griselda Have Released One Of 2019’s Best Songs. Listen Here (Audio)

Life is too short to listen to bad music. So…let Ambrosia For Heads fight through it for you and only supply you with that great stuff. Despite the reports, Hip-Hop is alive and well and, in many ways, is better than it’s ever been. Not only are we able to go back and listen to all of our favorites, at the click of a button, there is also a ton of great music still being made by artists, young and veteran alike…if you know where to look. To help with that task, we’ve created a playlist with recent music—songs that have been released within the last year or so. We update it regularly, so, if you like what you hear, subscribe to follow us on Spotify.

The Griselda Records triumvirate of Westside Gunn, Conway The Machine, and Benny The Butcher have won over many Hip-Hop Heads, especially over the last couple of the years. Having collaborated with an assortment of Rap giants and esteemed producers, the Buffalo trio has put in the work and watched their status escalate. That statement may never be truer than today (May 16), when the collective teams with living legend DJ Premier for “Headlines.”

Preemo starts things off with a series of scratched-in elements that have become a trademark to some of the Gang Starr member’s most beloved creations. He follows with dramatic strings, hard drums, and some essential cut-in Rap vocals. Conway begins with a confident verse. “I was wylin’ inside of a cage / Now I set fire to stage / Every verse recited is wave / And I ain’t writin’ a page / Hardest ni**a out ’til I lie in my grave,” spits the Machine. Wes’ follows up by looking at how his life has changed over the last 15 years. After hustling in the streets, the Griselda visionary has built something truly special. The MC who released one of AFH‘s top albums of 2018 courtesy of Supreme Blientele also tackles the chorus.

Benny The Butcher chops down a perfect third verse. “Look at me and see the vision of Malcolm / Slightly grinning, but long as we keep winnin’, man, I can live with the outcome / Drake had Rihanna / Mike had Madonna / But I drove a few bricks through the Carolinas / It’s true that they underestimate you when you’re modest / So I’m frontin’ on them every chance I get, to be honest / Ask about Griselda, they tell ya that we the hottest / Flip whatever I can sell ya ’cause failure won’t be an option,” The Butcher states, still white-hot off of last year’s Tana Talk 3. Previously, in DJ Premier’s single series with Payday Records there were video collaborations with A$AP Ferg (“Our Streets”) and Casanova 2X (“Wut U Said?”).

This chemistry of the three MCs together is exactly what Heads can look forward to with Wes’, Conway, and Benny’s upcoming Shady/Griselda Records debut. Benny confirmed the news to AFH last month. In the meantime, “Headlines” is coming to a Jason Goldwatch-directed music video with the MCs and Premier, shot on location in Buffalo.

In addition to new music from DJ Premier and the Griselda gang, the official AFH playlist includes songs from Eminem, Logic, Anderson .Paak & Andre 3000, Erick Sermon, AZ, Billy Danze, Tobe Nwigwe, Aaron May, Your Old Droog, Audio Push, 2 Chainz, J. Cole, Nas, The LOX, Boogie, Ghostface Killah, Big K.R.I.T., Pharoahe Monch, Denzel Curry, GoldLink, Atmosphere, Masta Ace & Marco Polo, Apollo Brown & Joell Ortiz, Drake, Bun B, Wu-Tang Clan, Evidence, and others.
