Freddie Gibbs & Anderson .Paak Freak A Madlib Beat Like Giannis (Audio)

Everything leading up to Freddie Gibbs and Madlib’s highly-anticipated sophomore collaborative album Bandana (June 28) has proven that the work has been worth the wait. First announced in 2016, the RCA/Keep Cool Records LP has already seen three of its singles drop with “Flat Tummy Tea” in February and the title track just two weeks later. The came out as a video last month in the form of “Cr*me Pays.” Now, Heads are getting the fourth offering from Bandana, and it features a Grammy Award-winning guest in Anderson .Paak.

“Giannis,” which Gangsta Gibbs teased earlier this week that he’d be releasing on Thursday is making good on his word. Gibbs wastes no time launching into one of his hardest verses. The Gary, Indiana great points to cartoon rappers in the game while he is the real-deal. After Andy drops in some warm vocals as a simple but effective chorus. Gibbs peps up his flow for the second verse. “I done been dropped before / Been talked about and wrote off before / Heart on my sleeve and the ATF at my mama door,” he spits. “Price should come with the fame / Flowers cover the grave,” Paak sings moments later. Then he spits a third verse in the same underbelly that Gibbs illustrates. The Aftermath artist recalls his own days of hustling to support a dream.

Previously, Madlib and Paak have collaborated on Malibu and sessions for last year’s Oxnard (including some additional work by Dr. Dre). However, the latter did not release with the album.

Black Thought, Yasiin Bey, K!ller Mike, and Pusha-T are among the other confirmed guests on Bandana.
