Mystikal Has Been Arrested For Very Serious Charges

Platinum-selling Hip-Hop artist Mystikal was arrested this past weekend and charged with serious sexual crimes. The 52-year-old born Michael Tyler was apprehended Sunday (July 31) in Prairieville, Louisiana, and charged with first-degree rape, false imprisonment, domestic abuse battery (strangulation), simple robbery, and simple criminal damage to property. He is currently being held without bond. This incident marks Mystikal’s third separate time being accused of sex crimes.

Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office obtained a warrant for the crime, allegedly occurring Saturday at the artist’s Prairieville home. ABC affiliate WBRZ reports that “documents said Tyler accused the woman of stealing $100 cash from him before punching her, pulling braids out of her hair and taking her keys and phone to prevent her from leaving.” Then, the victim alleges that Mystikal raped her before she could leave the premises and get treated at a Baton Rouge hospital. WBRZ reports: “At the emergency room, a sexual assault kit was performed on the victim, and deputies found injuries consistent with her description of the assault.” The hospitalization promoted authorities to investigate, prompting a warrant and subsequent arrest.

Mystikal Is Indicted For Rape & Kidnapping. Bond Set At $3 Million.

Mystikal served six years in prison following a 2004 trial where Mystikal was convicted of sexually assaulting his former hairstylist. He pleaded guilty to those charges ahead of the sentence. However, in a 2021 VladTV interview, Mystikal argued that he was innocent. The former No Limit star signed with New Orleans rival Cash Money Records upon release. However, despite working with Mannie Fresh, Mark Ronson, DJ Quik, Lil Wayne, and Birdman, Mystikal never released an album. The artist’s catalog includes the chart-topping Let’s Get Ready. The 2000 Jive Records LP featured involvement from OutKast, The Neptunes, and former Beats By The Pound producers Mo B. Dick, KLC, and Craig B.

In 2017, Mystikal turned himself in after rape and kidnapping allegations in Shreveport, Louisiana tied a late 2016 incident. Rolling Stone reports that in 2020, those charges were dropped due to a lack of evidence.
