Method Man, Busta Rhymes & 18 Other MCs Perform A Medley Of Their Classics

Many would like to forget the events of 2020, with good reason. The year brought a lot of challenges. However, amidst the trials and tribulations, there were a number of culture-shifting events and personalities that arose. D-Nice captivated the world with an Instagram Live DJ set that entertained millions. The set would launch a wave of virtual DJ mixes that continue today. Swizz Beatz and Timbaland joined forces to create competitions, sometimes friendly and sometimes not so friendly, among some of the greatest artists and producers of all-time. Another such must see franchise that arose came from DJ Cassidy.

The New York-born DJ to the stars created a platform called Pass The Mic, which served as virtual mixtapes where he had the performers of each record join him via Zoom to rap or sing along to their classics. Like many great DJ sets, each installment tended to focus on a particular genre, theme or era, and sometimes all three. Past installments highlighted legends of classic Soul, ’80s Hip-Hop, ’90s R&B and more. Earlier this week, Cassidy was commissioned by the BET Hip Hop Awards to create another installment of his series, with this one focusing on mid-’90s to early 2000s Hip-Hop.

Swizz Beatz & Timbaland Are Giving Ownership In Verzuz To All Past Participants

Given that the centerpiece of Tuesday’s awards show was a star-studded tribute to the 30th anniversary of LOUD Records, Cassidy’s latest edition highlighted many of the artists who comprised the legendary roster of the label. Wu-Tang Clan’s Method Man, RZA, Ghostface Killah and Raekwon were joined by label mates like M.O.P and Mobb Deep’s Havoc. After a medley of their hits, peppered with appearances by artists like Redman and Busta Rhymes, Cassidy expanded the playlist to include artists like Swizz Beatz, Jakakiss, Styles P and more. To close the set, Cass went out West where he blended records by Snoop Dogg, Xzibit, Warren G and Ice Cube. As has become tradition, each artist featured on the record appeared with Cassidy, virtually, to rap his or her signature verses.
