Few MCs Can Flow on a Big Daddy Kane Classic. Jadakiss is One of Them (Audio)
“Raw,” “Ain’t No Half Steppin’,” “Smooth Operator”…Those are Big Daddy Kane classics, for sure, but for many Heads there is no finer lyrical performance from Kane than the one he dropped on 1989’s “Young, Gifted and Black.” There was no hook, no smooth R&B, just BDK detonating a two minute neutron bomb of a verse that was an all-out warning to competitors that he was the anointed one.
Over the years, MCs have rhymed over the Albert King sample-driven track, but few, if any, have rivaled Kane’s performance like Jadakiss has with his latest freestyle. Seemingly done with all of the 90s based freestyles of late, Jada dug deeper, both for the beat and on his verse. And, with a nod toward Kane’s sentiment on the original, Jada says “the crown has to be passed down, you can’t earn it.”
Check out his “Young, Gifted and Black Freestyle.”
