Evidence’s New Video Is An Introspective Look Into One Of The Year’s Best Albums

Evidence’s Weather Or Not was an early standout album this year, and it set a great standard. The Rhymesayers Entertainment release, Ev’s third solo affair, made Ambrosia For Heads“Best 15 Albums Of 2018.” Nearly a year old, the Dilated Peoples and Stepbrothers co-founder continues to deliver visuals to his acclaimed body of work.

“Raindrops” is a solo moment on W.O.N. Produced by Twiz The Beatpro, the song is a soliloquy from the MC/producer who often uses weather as imagery. “Wet checks, BMI’s, ASCAP’s / My rainy day money and made it past that / Another day to push ‘cause the night is long / And went through writer’s block just to write a song / To left right but don’t right a wrong I can see clearly now the rain is here / The pain is here, and I stayed sincere / All to say it’s the work in a day / And I’m all in my words that I word in a way,” he spits.

In the video, Mr. Slow Flow bares his thoughts in a dark video he directed with Johannes Roth (who shot the piece). The rollercoaster-like setting at night is a tonal fit for the lyrics. “We could call it water under bridges / Or we could not, it’s all in one decision / See the pyramids or see the prison / Keys open doors but the doors are off the hinges / How many got a friend that ain’t suspicious? / Heard before Nas that it was written / Got a lot but got a lot of livin’ / Missed the last call, it’s passin’ the bar / Thinkin’ ‘bout the past as I pass in my car / All to say it’s the work in a day / And I’m all in my words that I word in a way,” he says as he walks an artful stairway. The photographer’s visual has a slow and artful shift to bold color.

Weather Or Not features involvement from DJ Premier, Alchemist, Styles P, Rapsody, and Dilated. Earlier this year, Ev’ directed a video for Atmosphere, and reportedly has another forthcoming for Infamous Mobb member Big Twins.
