Nicki Minaj Stings Drake & Cardi B In Her New Video

Over the last year, Nicki Minaj has been in an odd professional position. The same year that Cardi B released a chart-topping, Grammy-nominated album, Minaj’s Queen did not achieve the same recognition. The Young Money veteran’s fourth LP peaked at #2 and was not nominated in any category by the Recording Academy. To make matters worse, 2018 saw a physical and very public altercation between the two New York Rap stars. While Cardi B may have reportedly instigated it, Nicki minced no words expressing disdain for the artist who many have said occupies a spot Nicki owned in the first half of this decade.

In her newest Queen video, “Hard White,” Nicki spits some bars that very clearly go at Cardi. She also may be swinging at her former collaborator Drake, and the Grammy’s as a whole. Near the 1:33-mark of the visual a scorpion appears and is then dismembered within a second. Scorpion, of course, is the title of Drizzy’s latest album and is often a symbol he uses when he releases new music. Like Cardi, Drake and his music are nominated in multiple categories for February 10’s event. Additionally, Drake recently reunited with Nicki’s ex, and his former foe, Meek Mill. Back when Meek attacked Drake, Nicki remained neutral while Drizzy’s scathing “Back To Back” response brought her into the dispute. The two Young Money artists with hit collaborations in years past no longer follow each other social.

Nicki Minaj Breaks Her Silence About Her Cardi B Fight & Pulls No Punches

Nicki Minaj also seems to be taking a shot at that event itself. While rapping the line “I’m the trophy of the game / Everybody trying to win me,” a one-second glimpse of a Grammy trophy appears. Nicki has not been up for an award from the academy since 2015. She has been nominated 10 times without a win. At the 2012 ceremony, Minaj made history as the first female solo Rap performer at the prestigious awards.

As it is on the album, this single is one of the places that fans believe Nicki dissed her cross-town rival. “I ain’t ever have to strip to get the pole position,” Nicki spits. Including on her album, Cardi has been open about her past as an exotic dancer.
