2 Chainz Kicks Words Of Wisdom Over A DJ Premier Track

Life is too short to listen to bad music. So…let Ambrosia For Heads sift through it for you and only supply you with that great stuff. Despite the reports, Hip-Hop is alive and well and, in many ways, it’s better than it’s ever been. Not only can we go back and listen to all of our favorites at the click of a button, but there is also a ton of great music still being made by artists, young and veteran alike…if you know where to look. To help with that task, we’ve created a playlist with recently released music. We update it regularly, so subscribe to follow us on Spotify if you like what you hear.

DJ Premier and 2 Chainz have crossed paths again with a song about self-empowerment. For “Mortgage Free,” the Atlanta, Georgia veteran raps, “The goal in life is to be mortgage-free / Control your emotions have integrity / If you wanna use my likeness I need equity / And if you really tryin’ to win you need to bet with me.” The Gang Starr O.G. layers in a song with hard drums, strings, and mixed-in vocals. He also scratches in some vocals from the great MCs that he’s worked with over the years. The Def Jam Records star spits about his climb from hustling to owning land, cars, and real estate—things he knows all too well. “I had a foreign and an old school; I had two rides / I just closed on a building it’s like Kroger-size / The paperwork in my name just got it notarized / I bought my mama’s crib before I bought mines / Knew I was gonna be successful when I was about nine / Hangin’ on the block when it’s drought time / Where arguments can turn a body outline,” he raps.

“Since 2 Chainz joined Royce [5’9] and I on PRhyme 2’s ‘Flirt,’ I returned the love back by sending him a beat while he was in the Bahamas with Statik Selektah earlier this year recording for various projects.  I sent him the beat and he sent it back to me the same night,” Preemo said in a press statement. “I asked him what he was using it for, and he said he would figure out which project it would go on later, since he’s working on so many different ones.  Since the end of the year was approaching, I knew that I had one more single left to release on Payday Records. After discussing it with management, I suggested that I put it out. 2 Chainz was down and now we have another banger of bars and boom-bap delivered the way you want it to sound.” Previously, Preemo partnered with Payday for 2017’s ASAP Ferg collabo “Our Streets,” 2018’s “WUT U SAID?” with Casanova 2X, and 2019’s “Headlines” with Griselda. Each of those joints received a music video.

Last year, 2 Chainz released So Help Me God! which was named among AFH‘s best of 2020.
