Chris Rock Makes His 1st Comments Since The Oscars

Following Sunday night’s (March 27) Oscar fiasco, Will Smith apologized to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for his stage-rushing smack to Chris Rock and his language. Smith also wrote directly to his peer: “I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness.”

While Smith said his part, Chris Rock has remained quiet. Despite reportedly declining to press charges on a past television collaborator, Rock did not release any statement to the press. Instead, the New York native used his medium of standup comedy to confront the issue.

Will Smith & Questlove Win At The Craziest Oscars Ever

Performing at Boston, Massachusetts’ Wilbur Theater last night (March 30), Rock was greeted with a standing ovation. “Whoa, OK!” he responded, according to Variety. “How was your weekend?” Rock asked the 1,000 seat venue with a wink—prompting an eruption of laughter. “I don’t have a bunch of sh*t about what happened, so if you came to hear that, I have a whole show I wrote before this weekend,” said the film and TV star. He added, “I’m still kind of processing what happened. So, at some point, I’ll talk about that sh*t. And it will be serious and funny.” Rock has recently used his act to address serious and funny topics, including porn addiction and marital troubles.

During Wednesday’s show, an audience member interrupted the set to shout, “F*ck Will Smith!” However, Rock ignored the point. “I’m going to tell some jokes,” he said. “It’s nice to just be out.”
