DJ Muggs is on a tear, and has been at this pace for years. The founding member of Cypress Hill and 7A3 continues to release a ton of music. In 2022, he teamed with Rochester, New York MC Rigz for Gold, a special vinyl exclusive EP with Cappadonna, and a 25th-anniversary documentary on his first Soul Assassins compilation. Additionally, last month, Showtime premiered Cypress Hill’s Estevan Oriol-directed documentary, Insane In The Brain.

Now, the multi-platinum, Grammy-nominated producer/DJ returns with “Metropolis,” an S.A. single featuring two incredible MCs: Slick Rick and Method Man. Muggs lays down a sinister knock with accents. Mr. Meth’ begins, “First they said I was overrated / Illegal motion, I had no motive or motivation / So F the world, this is fornication / Just keep that energy; I’ma match it, coordination.” At the minute-mark, Slick Rick blesses the mic with a triplet flow at the top of his verse. The Ruler plays with words and timing in his flow.

“Metropolis” is the first single from Muggs’ upcoming Soul Assassins 3 compilation. The 1997 debut involved Dr. Dre, RZA, MC Eiht, Goodie Mob, and more. A sequel arrived in 2000, featuring Kool G Rap, Dilated Peoples, Kurupt, and others.

Slick Rick Shares A 30-Year-Old Song That Missed His Great Adventure (Audio)

Last week, DJ Muggs’ Cypress Hill band-mate, Sen Dog, was hospitalized. The group confirmed that Sen is missing the remainder of the tour with Slipknot. Method Man recently released his Meth Lab: Season 3, featuring appearances by KRS-One, Redman, Jadakiss, and RJ Payne. Muggs’ Bang EP with another Wu-Tang affiliated MC, Cappadonna, recently sold out its 500 clear vinyl copies.
