Westside Gunn Says Jay Electronica Might Be Griselda

In recent years, Griselda Records has been expanding. Westside Gunn’s label has put out acclaimed, charting releases by himself, Benny The Butcher, and Conway The Machine. The imprint has also released product by Boldy James, Mach-Hommy, and Armani Caesar. Last year, WSG reportedly added Brooklyn, New York’s Rome Streetz to his roster. However, now Gunn is claiming he may be expanding with a Grammy-nominated Hip-Hop veteran joining the team.

“Shout out to Jay Electronica. Jay Electronica might be Griselda,” Gunn said in an Instagram video, standing beside Rome Streetz in New York City. “Y’all might not know what the f*ck we doing behind the scenes, man. Jay Electronica might be Griselda. Yeah, for real. Ask him, see what he tells you. You heard it first.”

MF DOOM, Jay Electronica & Westside Gunn Join IDK On A Red Hot Song

Westside Gunn, who just released Peace “Fly” God on July 8, has worked with Jay Electronica on “Free Kutter” and IDK’s “Red” (also with MF DOOM)—both released in 2021. Both MC/producers appeared on Kanye West’s Donda one year ago as well.

Jay Electronica’s 2020 debut album, A Written Testimony, was nominated for a Grammy. It eventually lost to Nas and Hit-Boy’s A King’s Disease at last year’s ceremony. That album arrived on Roc Nation and featured JAY-Z prominently. In 2019, Jay also brought Westside Gunn and his cohorts to Roc Nation management.

Rome has yet to release a Griselda album, despite frequent drops elsewhere. This year the indie label released Benny’s Tana Talk 4 before Gunn’s latest.

New music from Westside Gunn, as well as Benny, Mach-Hommy, and Rome Streetz, is currently included on the official Ambrosia For Heads playlist.
