Your GOAT Has Been Determined And His Name Is…Eminem (Video)

Today (May 29), the winner of Ambrosia For Heads’ “Finding The GOAT” series, the quest to name Hip-Hop’s Greatest Of All-Time MC (GOAT), was determined. In the championship round, Eminem defeated Tupac 57.38% to 42.62%, meaning that Marshall Mathers is the GOAT, as voted by AFH readers.

Beginning in late September, 2014, more than 200 MCs were considered in reaching this decision. MCs from five decades were included, ranging from some of Rap’s pioneers to present-day voices. Options for write-ins were available, allowing readers, fans, and Hip-Hop historians to consider all artists.

The result comes after narrow wins for Tupac, who defeated The Notorious B.I.G., Nas, and Rakim, in three consecutive comeback wins. In his Final 4 match, Em handily defeated Big Daddy Kane 70.78% to 29.22%.

Although there will inevitably be questioners, skeptics, and angry fans of other artists, Eminem makes a strong case. Last decade, the 42 year-old was the biggest selling artist in any genre, for starters. A product of the battle-circuit, Em’s proven his success against hundreds of opponents in real-life since his “8 Mile” days. Detroit, Michigan’s finest has six #1 albums and five #1 songs. The MC’s catalog pulls from Underground Hip-Hop, Gangsta Rap, and mainstream Pop. Em’ is versatile, original, authentic and innovative, all at once.

In a Top 6 that included Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, The Notorious B.I.G., Nas, Tupac, and Eminem, you, the fans, have named Marshall Mathers the Greatest Of All-Time. These videos capture some of our learnings about the GOAT debate over the last several months. What are some of your takeaways?
