Royce 5’9″ Savages A Track For Nearly 5 Straight Minutes. Playtime Is Over (Audio)

Royce 5’9″ has gone to another level. Since announcing the release of his forthcoming album, Layers, here on Ambrosia For Heads in February, the Detroit MC has been on a mission to destroy anything that gets in his path to be recognized as one of the greatest lyricists in Hip-Hop, excluding nobody. Each week, he has released head-spinning songs, videos, and sometimes both, giving fans a taste of what to expect from the LP.

Royce’s album is aptly-titled, as he continues to grow and add layers with each move he makes. His time in the lab with Slaughterhouse sharpened his pen in a way that was noticeable when he joined forces with DJ Premier in PRhyme. The evolution has continued, as his lyrical ferocity has surpassed even that high benchmark with recent solo material like lead single “Tabernacle,” his recent freestyle “Dead President Heads,” and this week’s video for “Which Is Cool.”

Now, Royce releases another display of his lyrical prowess with “Savages.” In line with the song’s name, Royce flows at a blistering pace over an AntMan Wonder production for nearly 5 minutes straight. The track is little more than drums and Royce’s voice, which places an emphasis on his rhymes. Still, multiple rewinds will be required to catch everything. Is there anyone hungrier in Hip-Hop right now than Royce?
